July Photograph Of The Month – Corn Poppy Petals With Water Droplets

This image of a corn poppy flower with water droplets on its petal was taken shortly after I acquired my EF 100mm/2.8 L Macro IS USM lens. I have always been fascinated with water droplets on plants. This instance provided a great opportunity to shoot this type of image. The rain had just stopped; there was almost no wind, which in this case was a huge help. Wind would have made it a lot more difficult to shoot this image. I shot a series of images of the poppy flower petals, but this one is to me the best of the series. The water droplets look really nice against the red petal of the poppy flower. The reason for the water droplets is the “hydrophobic effect” which in effect is “a fear for water”.
